Privacy Policy

Last updated 8 September 2026.

Penink (“we”, “us”) is a digital notebook app for iPhone and iPad, and the website at penink.app. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have.

If you have questions, write to support@penink.app.

1. Who this policy covers

This policy applies to the Penink iOS app and to penink.app.

You can use Penink without an account. In that case your notebooks stay on the device. If you sign in, we sync your account and content so you can use them on that account.

2. Information you create

You may create or import:

This is your content. We process it to run the app: storing it on the device, syncing it when you are signed in, searching it, exporting it, and running optional study tools you choose to use.

3. Account information

Signing in is optional. If you skip sign-in, we do not create a Penink account and we do not sync your notebooks to our servers.

If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive:

We use this to sign you in, sync your notebooks, and contact you about the service. We do not use it for advertising. We do not sell it.

Penink does not currently offer paid in-app purchases such as Penink Pro. If that changes, we will update this policy.

4. Sync and vendors

When you are signed in, your account details and content are stored using Google Firebase (authentication, database, and file storage) so we can sync notebooks, scans, recordings, and related files.

Sign-in is provided by Apple (Sign in with Apple) or Google (Google Sign-In).

If you use transcription, audio is sent to Apple’s speech recognition service. Apple’s privacy policy applies to that processing.

The app is distributed through the Apple App Store. Apple’s terms and privacy policy apply to download, billing, and App Store accounts.

These vendors process data only as needed to provide their services to us.

5. Camera, photos, microphone, and speech

The app asks for device permissions only when you use the related feature:

We do not use these permissions for advertising.

6. Study tools and assistant

Summaries, flashcards, study questions, and the in-app assistant run on your device using the notes already on that device. They are not sent to Penink servers or to a third-party language-model provider.

Results can be incomplete or wrong. They are a study aid, not a substitute for your own notes.

7. Device information we store on the device

The app stores preferences on the device (for example tool settings and whether you skipped sign-in) using the system’s local storage.

We do not operate advertising, and we do not use App Tracking Transparency. We do not currently include a separate analytics or crash reporting product in the iOS app.

We do not need your phone number.

8. What we do not do

9. Retention and deletion

You can delete notebooks, pages, and files in the app, including Trash.

You can delete your Penink account in the app: open Account, then Delete Account. You will be shown what will be removed and asked to confirm. Deleting the account:

You can choose whether to also erase notebooks stored on that device. If you leave that option off, a local copy remains and is no longer synced.

You may also email support@penink.app to ask us to delete an account. Backups may remain for a limited period after deletion.

10. Children

Penink is a general productivity app and is not directed at children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will delete it as required.

11. Changes

We will update this page when the policy changes and revise the date above. Continued use of Penink after an update means you accept the revised policy.
